Dear Fred:

Sorry I am so late with this material, but nevertheless I am getting some of it on the way to you now.

This whole story of the Janas affair is amazing and incredible beyond belief. E. Phillips Oppenheim or any of the detective story writers could not have dreamed up some of the things that have happened, are happening and probably will happen before "Finis" is written to this whole affair.

Since I saw you last Mr. Janas resigned as president of Colonial. Mr. Landa, a Washington attorney who was recently appointed to the Board of Directors, was elected president at a salary of $12,000 per year. Mr. Janas was continued as Executive Assistant at his old salary of $24,500. Strange happenings!

The CAB was forced to put out the enclosed press release on July 3, 1951 and the related material attached as a result of a newspaper release in Washington on the whole Janas affair sometime around the 20th of June. You will note that the CAB predated their orders the 18th of June because the newspaper story in the Washington Post kind of embarrassed them. They finally released this material July 3rd.

As a result of this publicity MR. Janas was dropped as an executive assistant and rehired again as a consultant at $12,000 a year. I imagine the CAB exerted some pressure on the company before this occurred. Sometime in August Mr. Janas finally resigned from the company. At this time whether or not Mr. Janas is exercising any influence in the near future will indicate when his influence ceased.

Hope this brings you up to date in the Colonial's affairs and trust that it finds you in the best of health.

With regards to Mrs. Weicker, I am

Sincerely yours,

Michael A. Gitt
