Duties: Develops and manages a program of national and international scope for the investigation, analysis and prevention of aircraft accidents, and the promotion of air safety. Qualifications: General Experience: Must be of such nature as to provide the applicant with a broad and intimate knowledge of aircraft design, manufacture, operation, maintenance, navigation facilities, etc. Specialized Experience: Experience with a recognized public or private agency or activity, which provided basic knowledge and background in aircraft accident investigation, research and analysis, prevention and the promotion of air safety. Postion Vacancy #15; Air Saftey Investigator, GS-1815-11, Bureau of Aviation Safety. Location: Washington, D.C., New York City, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, Ft. Worth, Denver, Kansas City, Oakland, Seattle, or Anchorage. Duties: Investigates aircraft accidents and incidents to obtain evidence, interviews witnesses and participates in accident prevention projects; prepares reports; participates in accident hearings and depositions. Qualifications: applicants must have 4 years general and 2 years specialized experience for a total of 6 years. General Experience: Experience which provides a broad and intimate knowledge of aircraft design, manufacture, maintenance operations, operational requirements, etc. Experience in aircraft accident investigations, or air safety research and analysis with a recognized agency, which would provide the basic background for Air Safety Investigator in investigative tech- niques and procedures, including reports. Applicants must hold a valid Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument rating, and have 500 hours in the past 5 years with 200 in jet powered aircraft. Salary: $9,657 - $12,555.
