Dear Mr. Godfrey:
As an Associate Member of the Congressional Flying Club, I regret very much my inability to attend the recent meeting held at the Key Bridge Marriott Motel. The flu bug decided that I should remain home in bed.
I did receive excellent reports on your address to the members and guests and was particularly interested in your remarks concerning the regulation of the Federal Aviation Administration, which mandates the retirement of the air line pilot at age 60. It is good to know that there is someone and especially a person of your stature who shares our views on this matter.
Our Association has a special committee appointed for the purpose of abolishing, or at least modifying, this regulation and the undersigned in the staff coordinator for this Committee. Captain Michael A. Gitt, recently of Eastern Airlines, and who has passed every physical examination in the book is also a member of this Committee. Mike has taken exception from same, but has been denied by the FAA. Due to your interest in this subject and our extreme interest, we were wondering if it would be feasible for you to interview Captain Gitt on your program at some near future date and try to explain to the public the fail-safe concept of airline operation and the invasion of the Federal Government into the private life of an individual without proper foundation or evidence of the necessity of such invasion. Captain Gitt is a resident of Long Island and would be readily available without expense.
