Mullins Acts As Instructor

BASKING RIDGE-Howard Mullins of Morristown has returned to Somerset Hills Airport where he learned to pilot an airplane, but in the role of instructor. Mullins, who recently received a commercial instructors rating from the government, went to a South Jersey flying field for his first job-teaching and flying a farm machinery salesman from pasture to pasture in search of farmer prospects.

He then transferred to Bristol Airport, Bristol, Conn., where he served as instructor and pilot. This week he accepted a position with Standard Flying Service at Somerset Hills and is now engaged in teaching students of the government-financed Summer program sponsored by Newark College of Engineering.

A total of 45 students have qualified for free training between now and September 15, and the first two groups of 15 have started flight training. Two young women, Miss Mildred Preen of Oldwick and Miss Elsie Braun of West Caldwell are among the new group to be taught the art of flying.
