The D.C.-- Chinatown D.C. Photographic Journal was to celebrate the bicentennial of D.C.

And we received two grants for it, one via D.C. Community's Humanities Council and the Washington Post.

And, how it really started... I was reading, I was reading a newsletter, I guess about the upcoming D.C. Bicentennial

and it outlined a lot of projects that was being funded by the Humanities Council but I didn't see anything about Chinatown.

And, and, as you have mentioned, you all mentioned about your research, just through my, you know, working through the Asian-American Mayans and learning about heritage and I said, well, where's D.C.?

We're not mentioned at all, or barely mentioned, except that there was a Chinatown in D.C.

Um, so, in this, when this, when I read about the various projects being funded, I said, well, you know, I think there should be something about D.C.'s Chinatown because we've been here a long time.

Um, I don't know much about it and, um, so that's, was the impetus for that.

So, I wrote the grant, a proposal, and gathered people. You know, are you interested? Do you want to be part of this?

Esther Chow came on board as a Humanities Scholar and advisor and we also had another scholar, Wei Lee Fong from Fujima, and I think she was also a photographer.

Then Theo helped me interview Xi Quan Ho, it's all in this, this book, who was involved. She was a major researcher and we had another, Wei Lee, who was at the-- Xi Quan Ho was also at university --
