Korea is surrounded by many peninsulas: The dancers are from Cheju:

they are known for their stones, women & wind. Two traditions: agricultural and diving into the water for sea goods.

Song #1 - agricultural - ground patting - two women from Cheju, no instruments just the women singing using different tools and reed.

Song #2 - after harvest, bean dried, threshing song

Song #3 - Stone grounding song - rice and other vegetables grounded together to make rice cake. Revolves around an imaginary called dado representing paradise.

Song #4 - song mimicking the sounds of a cat. "Jeow" (meow) A woman lamenting about having her husband left and makes her run the house on her own. Sung by young women and old by the water well while carrying their water on their back. Song of entertainment to pass the time while working. Mongols in 12th century invaded island and makes were demoralized. Ratio is 4 to 1 now. Women to over work work and agricultural labor, diving and fishing. Their society on the island is almost the opposite of that on the mainland. Sticks are used to tap on the water jugs

Song #5 - sand at the ritual shrine to the guardian guillotine

Song #6 - Final number - women divers - sing rowing song while rowing before they dive. A National and unique song, found nowhere else in Korea and most of Asia. They dive for octopus, eatable seaweed and other sea specialties. They are very strong can hold their breath for up to 5 minutes. Do not use any oxygen.
