I wish to lay before you the following facts, and ask your Co-operation in the matter to which they relate.

I have heretofore tendered my resignation, and so for have not succeeded in having it accepted, and on this date I again forward a request to the War Department to accept my resignation. 

I do this Genl. from the fact that I find myself unable to support my family on a Captains Pay, and also that by leaving the service now I am able to form a Business Connection which will enable me to provide for the wants of those dependent entirely upon
