Nashville, Tenn., Feb 23. 1866.

Colonel,

In compliance with S. O. No. 31 C. S. from Asst Com'r Office, together with Letter of Instructions of even date, I have the honor to report that on the night of the 21st inst I started for Cave City Ky., and the following day made a Post Mortem examination of the dead body of the Cold. boy Edwin Middleton, suspected of having come to his death by blows inflicted by his late employer, George T. Middleton.

Drs. Williams, Shackleford and Caldwell all practicing physicians of the town or neighbourhood were present, and cheerfully gave me their assistance when required. The first named having been his attending physician in his fatal illness, identified the body of the deceased.
