I have the honor to adress you a fiew lines I have been makeing some efforts to collect what may be due the Freedman, for the year 1865 Commencing Feb the 22. I have had some trials in my Court between the Freedman and those that had them in their imployment, And after desiding the matters in dispute and awarding judgment, for the amount that was due the Freedman after a fair investigation, the parties would then get the Freedman out and induse them to Compromise for less than half the amount of said judgments rendered by me. The Freedman through fear and Ignance, in every Caise so fair have thus Compremised their Just Writes away, though I have not rathfied or Confirmed any of said Comprimeses.

I now aske for instruction in Such Cases further ther is number in the County that is afraid to come to see me for instruction and to demand their writes and consequently frequently slip to me after nite. And I beleave that they have good grounds for
