Mrs Gott asked them what they wanted to know that for. The negro said that is not the question I asked you. Mrs Gott then told the negro that her soninlaw had two horses. The Negro then asked where the man of the house was, Mrs Gott told him that he was in his house, and if he wanted to see him, he would have to git down, and come in. About this time Mr Green and some other gentelmen stept out into the yard, and Mr Green asked the Negroes what they wanted. One of the Negroes said I have come for your stock. Mr Green asked what they wanted with his stock. The Negro said you have two fine horses and I have authority from Head quarters at Chattanooga to take them and called for Willims and Albert who answered at, or near, Mr Greens Stable and said come here. Mr Green told them that they had no such orders and for them to go off, and let him and his stock alone. The Negro swore by God he had authority, and that he intended to have his horses - and at the same time both of the Negroes
