Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
State of Tennessee.
Office Superintendent of Education,
Nashville, Tenn., Novbr 1st, 1867.
Brevet Major General Wm P. Garlin
Asst. Com., BRF and A Lands Tenn

General:
I have the honor to inform you that at Brentwood 9 miles from Nashville where there can be a school of 60-70 scholars, for which I have a teacher in view - the people have put up inclosed roofing and flooring, a schoolhouse. The building needs windows, doors, seats &c all of which will cost about $200.00/100. The material can best be purchased in this city and sent direct to Brentwood on N & D. R.R.
I would respectfully recommend that a carpenter Mr. Dillin or some other man be sent to make an estimate of the job and if the estimate is satisfactory, that he be employed to put the house in or for a school at once.
Your obedient servant
D. Burt
Supt of Ed. BRF and A Lands Tenn.
