The case was submitted to the Court on briefs of counsel, inasmuch as only points of law were involved, & it 
must have been the absence of an oral argument that led to the impression of a compromise having been made. The decree of the Court in the recitals &c shows how the case went off & also the grounds on which the opinion
of the Court was based.
