18 51. Raleigh N.C. February 20th 1868. Merriam G. Esq Agt. Rocky Mount. Sir. Anthony Minga complains that Doctor N. B. Herring of Nash Co has retained his entire crop for 1866 as per enclosed papers. Herring lives in Stanhope neighborhood Nash Co. It appears from the statement that this man Minga has been healed very unjustly, He claims one half the crop of 1866. His account is for that part of the crop which Herring has retained. February 20th 1868 Belcher Mr. Rolesville, Sir, I wrote you sometime since in reference to $400 you owe Barbary Fleming. This has stood as long as it should. February 20th 1868 Jones B. Esq. Harnett Co. Sir Sharper McDougall complains that you have taken a horse belonging to him. You will at once deliver the horse to Sharper and call at this Office and arrange the damages in witholding his rightful property. You can then make such explanations as the case demands. This mans rights [[margin]] see affidavit on file Jones lives at Haywood P .O. Chatham Co. [/[margin]] 19 will be fully protected and justice done him. Sir, Peter Moore complains that he worked for your Father, John Young, senr, for one third the crop and that you refuse to settle with him. As the representative of your Father you are responsible for this settlement. I have examined his accounts and find that the estate owes him a balance of $120.34. You will please call at this Office and explain this matter and settle it, or measures will be taken to collect this man's dues. I have appointed Thursday of next week for you to meet him at this Office. You will not allow any sale of property until this mans account is arranged. Yours Respectfully H.C. Vogell Agt Bu R.F. & A L 55. Raleigh N.C. February 21st 1868 Nimble Jordan Esq. Sir, Hogan Dunston - a foolish boy, has been brought to me several times for aid. I have sent him to you as a Warden of the Poor. You have sent him to the Court. I understand to be disposed of. It is said that the Court or some of its Officers, charge fifteen or twenty Dollars to arrange for this man to go to the Asylum. This is a strange provision to charge for a foolish or insane man, when the only reason for bringing this man to you - was the friends of this man are too poor to care for him.
