82. 222. Raleigh N.C. April 25th 1868 Whittemore Charles B. Esq. Agt &c Hillsboro. Dear Sir. Thompson Hicks complains that one Grey Burt seduced his daughter. The result is the birth of a child. This case was up over a year ago, and papers issued for the arrest of the man. Grey Burt left for parts then unknown. He now turns up at Mr Charles Johnson's 5 miles forth of Chappel Hill. Will you please look after this, and do what you can to obtain from him something for the support of the child The child was sworn upon him. Yours Respectfully H.C. Vogell Agt Bu R.F. & A.L. 223. Raleigh N.C. April 25th 1868 Rogers Wm. Wake Co. Your wife complains that you drove her off. If she leaves she will take her hogs and whatever else belongs to her. I have told your wife Mary Baker to return home and if you molest her or in any way ill treat her I will have you arrested. Thomas complains that he rented you a house and lot for $20.00 per year, and what you do not pay him There was due him from you $20.00 last Christmas. You must either pay your rent or leave the premises. You cannot expect Mr. Thomas to furnish your shelter for nothing. You will attend to this at once. Yours &c H.C. Vogell Agt Bu R.F & A.L. 226. Raleigh N.C. April 25th 1868 Stone Adolphus Esq. Chatham Co. Sir, Hector Davis complains that you abused and ill treated his wife and at the same time threatened to shoot her. That you owe her for six months labor at $1.00 per month and her clothing which you refused to give her. What is due this woman you will please pay her and give up what clothing and explain this matter or we shall take instant measures to secure justice to these parties. Yours Respectfully H.C.
