James Scott complains that he engaged to work a certain piece of land for one half of what he might raise - you were to furnish a horse to work it, and find him rations. He also states that you have to take the land from him after he had planted the corn, which is already up. He further says you demand of him labor or pay for the horse, which was not in the bargain. You will please explain this matter at this Office or it will be placed in the Provost Court for adjustment.

I have the honor to apply for transportation for Jane Smith (col) 16 years years old from Raleigh to Nashville Tennessee. I am personally acquainted with the Rev Thomas E. Skinner and family with whom she goes to live, and know that they will give her a good home. I respectfully invite attention to enclosed letter from Dr Skinner, This girl is in needy circumstances and her family have drawn rations.
