State of N. Car { Freedman Labor Contract
Anson Cty {

This indenture made and entered into on the 25th day of Dec AD. 1866 between W.A. Barrier of the County of Cabarras and State of North Carolina of the first part and William Allen a freedman of the Second part. Witnesseth that he the said William Allen has agreed to work for the said WA. Barrier from this date to the 1st day of Jan A.D. 1868 on his farm in the State of Tenn. and to do all Kinds of work common to the farms of the Country and all other Kinds of labor [[strikethrough]] common to the farms of [[/strikethrough]] that it is deemed necessary to be done to do this work faithfully and to be respectful in his behavior, and Shall receive and shall receive $108.00, One Hundred and eight dollars on the 1st day of Jan A.D. 1868 or a part payment as soon as the crops are gathered and sold, He the said William Allen a freedmen further agrees that time lost by Idleness or absence without leave or sickness shall not be paid for. And the said W.A. Barrier further agrees to furnish to said William Allen with comfortable quarters sufficient rations and the amount of money above stated and transportation to his farm free of charge, And the said William Allen is to furnish his own clothes and pay his doctor bill, In testimony whereof the above parties set their hand and seal
