State of North Carolina    Freedman Labor Contract
Anson County

This Indenture made and entered into on the 25th day of Dec A.D. 1866 between WA Barrien of the County of Cabarrus and State of North Carolina of the 1st part [[strikethrough]] Witnesseth - [[/strikethrough]] and Giney Marhsall a freed-woman of the second part 
Witnesseth that she the said Giney Marhsall and children Helen, Mack Jack, and Amy have agreed to work for the said WA Barrien from this date to the 1st day of Jan A.D. 1868 on his farm in the state of Tenn - and to do all kinds of work common to the farms of the Country and all other kinds of labor that it is deemed necessary to be done, to do this work faithfully and to be respectfull in their behavior and they shall receive $230.00 Two Hundred and Thirty Dollars on the 1st day of Jan or a part payment as soon as the crops are gathered and sold. And the said Giney Marhsall and children Hellen, Mack Jack and Amy further agree that time lost by Idleness absence without leave or sickness shall not be paid for. 
And the said W A Barrien have agreed to furnish the said Giney Marshall and children, Mack Jack, Hellen & Amy with comfortable quarters sufficient rations and the amount of money above stated and transportation to his farm free of charge.

And the said Giney Marshall and children are to furnish their own clothes and pay their Doctor Bill.
