Articles of agreement made an entered into between R. McGuire of the County of Hardeman state of Tennessee of one part and Washington McGuire Colored man, and family of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said McGuire agrees to give the said Wash as much land as he can cultivate and a mule or horse as he may need to cultivate the said land for the year 1866—and all necessary plows and gear and tools actually necessary to cultivate a crop. That the said Washington agrees to do any & all kinds of work necessary about the plantation during the year — to discharge his duty faithfully in all things. To subject himself to James McGuires orders - at the end of the year or when the crop is gathered the cotton gined [[ginned]] — to have half of the Cotton he makes — he to find his wife and Children clothing and to pay all Dr Bills.

his wife Mason to cook wash milk iron and do all necessary work about the house or kitchen, and to work the garden when required. - To discharge her duty faithfully as a Cook, and to be under the controll & management of Mrs McGuire - To be obedient and agreeable. The said McGuire agrees to feed Wash and family. The said Wash agrees to take good care of all stock of all kinds - all tools and everything that is entrusted to his care & also to conduct themselves properly and orderly at all times — and to have everything present at the expiration of the year. The said McGuire to have full controll and management of the plantation the preparing cultivating and gathering the crops
