Know all Men by These Presents, That J. J. Neely & W. C. Mashburn of the County of Hardeman, State of Tennessee are held and firmly bound to the United States of America in the sum of ... dollars, for the payment of which we bind our heirs, executors and administrators, firmly by these presents, in this CONTRACT: That ...to furnish the persons, whose names are subjoined (freed laborers,) Quarters, Fuel, substantial and healthy Rations, [[strikethrough]] all necessary Medical Attendance and Supplies in case of sickness [[/strikethrough]] and the amount set opposite their respective names per month, during the continuation of the Contract-the laborers to be paid in full before the final disposal of the crop which is to be raised by them on The Fitzhugh plantation, in the County of Hardeman, State of Tennessee.

The said Jim, Nash, Chris, & Caroline have bound themselves to work for the said Neely & Mashburn for the year 1866. doing what is required by them in Consideration of Home to live in land to work in corn & cotton, provision to live, Time to work & tools to work with - they bind themselves to cultivate forty acres of cotton & two of corn & when gathered & cotton ginned & baled they are to have one third of the cotton & one third of the corn & fodder raised by them. They bind themselves to be orderly & quiet doing what is required in farm & taking good care of stock cattle horses hogs &c & allow no person to stay there without the permission of said Neely & Mashburn

This contract is to commence with this date and close with the year 1866.
