Know all men by these present that the following is a correct statement of a contract entered into between Pryor L. Vernon and Daniel Chapman, Colored man. The said Vernon agrees to furnish Daniel with a house for him and family, and the liberty of raising children. He also agrees to furnish him with land and time [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] and farming tools with which to cultivate the land, and when the crop is mown and gathered the said Vernon agrees to give Daniel one half of the crop he makes.
Daniel and his wife agrees to begin work the 1st day of Janry and work until the 25th of December 1866.
He is in all and every case to work under the directions of his Employer while out of the farm or in it. Daniel is to furnish himself and family with provision or food and clothing during the above named year. December the 29th 1865.
