Hardeman County Tenn Jany 2nd 1866
This is a contract for labor between H. Mitchell of the 1st part and Calvin Bogard and hannah his wife and Sally Hunt of the 2nd part the said Mitchell of the 1st part is to furnish land to cultivate farming utensils and team (say 2 mules), is to furnish said mules with feed and to furnish the hundred pounds of pork or equivalent in bacon to each hand and twelve bushels of corn to the hand for bread and said hand is to have one third of the crop raised by said hand and said Calvin Bogard and Hannah his wife and Sally Hunt parties of the 2nd part is to cultivate said land according to Mitchell's orders in cotton corn & oats or any other crop agreed upon (to feed said mules) and said labourers are to go to work early in the morning and to work all day as said Mitchell directs and is to do any work that said Mitchell wants them to do on the plantation during the year 1866 and is not to leave said plantation without said Mitchell's consent and is to be accountable for all time lost and of said crop
