Had to reopen. Someone had pressed the Green rectangle, but nothing had been done on the page yet. 10/8 10/8 entered some incomplete and too many question marks. Blank columns in tables should have 3 spaces per instructions. " marks in the K and F columns do not mean ditto. Rather, they seem to mean that a reading could not be taken (i.e. too slow or too deep to measure). Directions (courses, winds, bearings) are expressed in 32 compass points (e.g. N, NbE, NNE, NEbN, NE, NEbE and so on). The b means “by”. Sometimes a fraction is added when needed between these 32 points. "D’o" is abbreviation for "Ditto" meaning "same as before". "W’r" is abbreviation for "Weather". "D’o W’r" means "same weather as before". top gallt sails for topgallant sails "C’o" is abbreviation for “Company”. “E’t” is abbreviation for “East”. "W’t" is abbreviation for "West". "Mod’te" is abbreviation for "Moderate". “Mid’t” is abbreviation for “Midnight”. Wore - changed the tack of a sailing vessel by coming about so that the wind passed astern. Hove too – stopped the ship with the head into the wind.
