Transcription Notes:
Normalized formatting. Will finish. Vble. = Variable winds. W't: West E't: east Anch'd: anchored Head/H'd round the compass: when they swing the ship around every point of the compass to ascertain the compass' deviation caused by iron on the ship. "Tom Shots Point" is on the right bank of the Calabar River estuary, near Jamestown. (modern Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria) Chace - stands for "chase". 1 - The Andony River is a corruption of "Antonio River", likely the colonial name for the Kwa Ibo. 2 - Andony River is the modern day Andoni River, just north of the noon position on the 20th. It is just east of Bonny Island and just west of the mouth of the Ito River. Backasey: anglicization of Bakassi, modern Cameroon. At the mouth of the Calabar.
