CONSTITUTION of the ____________________ Name of Organization of NATIONAL CONGRESS OF AMERICAN INDIANS 1. PREAMBLE We, members of various Indian tribes of the United States, residing in ________ County and vicinity, in order to assist in the fulfillment of the aims of the National Congress of American Indians, adopt the following constitution. 2. NAME The name of this organization shall be the _______ of the National Congress of American Indians. 3. OFFICERS, THEIR ELECTION AND DUTIES The officers of this organization shall consist of a President, Vice-President, and Secretary-Treasurer. The officers shall be elected annually by a majority vote of the membership present at the annual meeting. The President, or in his absence the Vice-President, sahll conduct all meetings and carry out policies and programs of the organization. The Secretary-Treasurer shall keep minutes of all meetings, be accountable for all funds received and expended, and perform such other duties required by the President. 4. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The Executive Committee shall consist of three members which shall include the President and two other elected annually by a majority vote of the membership present. The Executive Committee shall meet when considered necessary and determine the organization's policies and programs which shall be consistent with those of the National Congress fo American Indians. The Executive Committee shall fill vacancies which occur in the office of President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer and the Executive Committee for the balance of the elected term. 5. MEMBERSHIP AND DUES Any person of Indian ancestry may become a member of this organization, provided that the applicants for membership shall first meet the eligibility requirements and pay the annual membership dues as established by the Executive Committee. 6. AFFILIATION WITH NATIONAL CONGRESS OF AMERICAN INDIANS The Craig County Unit shall be an affiliate organization of the National Congress of American Indians and shall exist only so long as it remains an affiliate under a charter granted by the parent organization. 7. AMENDMENTS The constitution of this organization shall be subject to amendment at any meeting by a majority vote of the members in good standing present. The foregoing Constitution was duly adopted on the ___ day of ___ 1945, at a meeting of American Indians held at ____ in the State of Oklahoma by a majority vote of the Indians present.
