Langer, Bushfield: House: Jackson of Washington, Stigler [[?]], Schwabe, Robertson, North Dakota, Holmes, Washington, Fernandez, of New Mexico, Murdock of

Arizona (and some others) --These men have carried the brunt of the fight. Said that it was a kindness to the Interior Department to beinvited as a guest of the Indian tribes, and discussed the wrongs that had been done to the Indians by the Department - particularly, with reference to the Five Civilized Tribes. Redress is better than apology. -The spirit and purpose of the Interior Department is to make right these wrongs as far as possible. The Department is not omnipotent and he hopes that better things can be done for the present Indians children, and their children's children. - Many mistakes were made because of insufficient information - problems of Indians should be clearer to the public - the administration should get rid of old obsolete laws. Told about helping to compile a list of old treaties and laws and in the analysis of them. There were 4,000 treaties and statutes and they were put into 46 volumes. He wished the Congress good luck in their claims. **
Judge Johnson Introduced Senator Gore -
-Senator Gore: Expressed his pleasure at being here, glad to address the first family of America. Congratulated Ben Dwight on hiw work and in bringing the Convention to Oklahoma. The Congress promises all well in the future. There is much in history of United States connected with Indians of which the white man might well be ashamed. There are some things that can be remedied and corrected by the Department, and that we should see, as far as possible, that amends are made. Said that the Claims Commission bill will contribute to righting the old wrongs. Congratulated Bill Stigler for his work on the bill.
