Anyway, but my name is Michael Stone. I'm from Austin, Texas, and I'm very pleased to be joined on stage today with two outstanding artists from El Paso, Texas.

On my immediate right is Augustine Castillo, who is a woodcarver; a premier woodcarver from El Paso.

Born in TorreĆ³n, Mexico, and grew up as a youth in Guadalajara where he learned the trade of woodworking.

And then on my far right is Carlos Callejo. Carlos now, I know you told me at one point, you were born in El Paso, right?

and spent part of your youth in Sierra Juarez, as I recall, and as a young man went to Los Angeles where you got kind of very much involved in El Movimiento Chicano

while you were also attending art school and engaged in a lot of community organizing activities.

Carlos and I are kind of contemporaries. We were fighting battles on different sides of the country at the time, but I think, I like to think we were fighting the same struggle.

Anyways, as I said we are here to talk about--

Carlos is a muralist and has done quite a number of projects working with the youth of El Paso and also in an earlier- during an earlier era in Los Angeles

planning and executing community murals that take major themes

of social import in a community and try and project them to educate the community.

Anyway, I don't want to talk too much longer but I hope to try and facilitate a bit of a conversation here, however,
