{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
Well, that's a pretty strong statement. I think that, you know, given-- given the conditions, you know,
[00:10:23]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
to me, one of the most striking things is how this activity is kind of really come up from the grassroots.
[00:10:30]

{SPEAKER name="Romy"}
It's very, it's very traditional, as far back-- My uncles' uncles, my, my grandfathers, they all knew, they all knew low riding, they all knew low riding in different ways.
[00:10:40]

{SPEAKER name="Romy"}
And I'm very proud to say that it's still alive, and very well, as a form of our culture, as a little part of our culture, as a Hispanic culture, the border, and I'm very proud to be a part of it.
[00:10:50]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
Yeah, I just like to point out, I'm gonna make a little, little pitch here for the Smithsonian and the process.
[00:10:58]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
You see-- you see staff people walking around here today; the people wearing the purple shirts. And on the back of the T-shirt, you'll see the same automobile that is, you know, pictured in the foto right over there.
[00:11:11]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
You know, having spent a fair amount of time in El Paso, Austin, Dallas and other places, looking at the low rider car scene,
[00:11:20]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
I really can, you know, confirm what Romy says. It's just a tremendous way for young people, and not so young people,
[00:11:30]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
to get together, and to work together to-- to sort of project a-- project a vision, you know,
[00:11:39]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
project a certain kind of a goal, and, you know, work with the other members of the club to do it. It's very much a family scene as well.
[00:11:46]

{SPEAKER name="Romy"}
It sure is, Mike. It's, it's a good way to bridge the-- what they say the generation gap.
[00:11:52]

{SPEAKER name="Romy"}
I've got-- There's fathers and sons, grandfathers, fathers; three, four generations, they'll all go to the car shows together, all four cars lined up, they all help each other.
[00:12:01]

{SPEAKER name="Romy"}
So it's not like you can't understand how your father thinks, because your father thinks the same way you do. It's all it's all family. It's all one big family across the Southwest, across the United States, across the world.
[00:12:12]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
I wanna get back to Ciudad Juarez a little bit because you know, some of you may have already noticed right next door here there's some very powerful images
[00:12:22]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
created by the members of La Sociedad de la Esquina.
[00:12:28]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}

[00:12:40]
{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
[00:12:47]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
[00:12:52]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
I'm just asking if he could explain to us the source of the images the, I mean, I think some of these images are incredibly powerful next door,
[00:13:02]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
and they really speak to the experience on the streets in Ciudad Juárez.
[00:13:07]

{SPEAKER name="Mike"}
Entonces.
{SPEAKER name="Romy"}
[00:13:17]

{SPEAKER name="Romy"}
[00:13:26]

{SPEAKER name="Romy"}
[00:13:40]

{SPEAKER name="Romy"}
[00:13:49]

Transcription Notes:
PLEASE TRANSCRIBE THE SPANISH BEFORE MARKING AS "COMPLETE". THANKS!!! Again - This did not have the speakers done correctly, as is shown in the instructions. Had to reopen to fix. Also shortened length of entries. ROMY is the spelling for the first name of the guest speaker.
