SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION
Washington, D.C. 20560
U.S.A.

March 1, 1993

Mr. Jacob Lawrence
4316 37th Avenue, N.E.
Seattle, WA 98106

Dear Jacob:

It is my pleasure to inform you that the Smithsonian's Board of Regents at its February 1 meeting formally confirmed your reappointment to the National Museum of American Art Commission, effective immediately, for a second four-year term expiring December 31, 1996.

As a result of a recent change in policy, the Smithsonian will no longer reimburse you for travel and per diem expenses which you may incur in attending Commission meetings. The Smithsonian will continue to maintain insurance coverage for "directors and officers" liability with respect to your Commission duties.

We deeply appreciate your gracious willingness to serve another term on the Commission and look forward to your valued advice and your support of the affairs of American art with the Smithsonian. I hope that you will be able to join us for the next Commission meeting on March 29, and I look forward to seeing you then.

Sincerely yours,
Bob
Robert McC. Adams
Secretary
