In the course of searching through our own political campaign memorabilia collection, I discovered that we had almost every type of object associated with smoking, and decorated with political campaign motifs or legends, except such a case. We have snuff boxes (Jackson and W.H. Harrison), pipes (Clay, Benjamin Harrison, Teddy Roosevelt), match containers (McKinley, Harrison), cigars (Landon, Stevenson, Kennedy, Nixon), cigar boxes (Nixon), cigarette and cigar cards (Benjamin Harrison), ash trays of various candidates, cigarettes (Stevenson, Eisenhower), match books (F.D. Roosevelt, to the present), and a Eisenhower cigarette case. I am sorry to assume the professional museum beggar's role, but I cannot refrain from saying that if you should ever wish to donate any or all of the politically labeled cigar-carrying cases, the Division of Political History would be most heartily grateful.

We are planning a large campaign exhibit in our new Museum of History and Technology and are quite crazy about the subject.

Again, thank you for your courtesy while we were at Detroit. I was impressed by all that I saw.

Sincerely yours,
Wilcomb E. Washburn
