Colonel

In reply to your communication of the 20th inst, in reference to claims of Mrs. G.E. Butler for service rendered as Teacher of Colored School in 1867, I have the honor to say, that at the time her first school report was received in 1867, it was thought doubtful whether her school actually had the required average attendance. While it was not reported in the Monthly Consolidated Report of Schools for their Sub-District, it was deemed best to forward a separate report of it to the Supt. of Education for his consideration but without any recommendation from the Sub. Asst. Commissioner (copy of the transmittal letter sent you June 27th 1868). No answer was received to this, and the school was not taken up on our List of Bureau Schools.
