Bvt. Lieut. Col. E. Beecher U.S.V.
Asst. Commissioner Bu &c
Montgomery, Ala.

Colonel,
I have the honor to forward herewith the Report of Prof Sear's School for month of October '68. This is the only school for Freedmen reported at this office for month of October 1868.

On Report of Persons and Articles hired in this Sub-District for the months of July, August and Octo., 1868, a Building was reported as rented of William Bayley at Pleasant Hill, Dallas Co. He should not be paid for those months he not having occupied the building for school purposes, for which it was rented. So he writes this office.

Very Respectfully
Your Obt Servt
Chas C Bartlett
Sub-Asst. Comm'r

For Supt. Education for Ala.

Transcription Notes:
not sure about the transcription of Beecher (whose first name was Edwin) as Asst. Commissioner Bu & c --- Bu seems correct but & c seems a guess
