Sub Dist of Opelika
Bureau R.F. & A.L.
Opelika Ala. Nov. 27th 1868.

Bvt. Lt. Col. Edwin Beecher U.S.V.
Asst. Commissioner of Alabama,
Montgomery Ala.

Colonel
I have the honor to report that there is a house and lot in Salem, Lee Co. Ala. which the Col. people wish to buy for a school house, but are unable. The house is 37 x 30 feet. The Lot contains two acres of ground and can be bought for two hundred & fifty $(250.00) Dollars. A free school of 100 Scholars would be established there at once, if there was a house in which to teach. I earnestly recommend that an appropriation of $250.00 be made to buy the house and lot referd to above, and that it be deeded to the Col. people for school purposes.

Very Respectfully
Your Obt Servt.
