Sir,
Your's of the 3rd inst. in regard to lots at Auburn and Salem, has been rec. and in reply I would say that the house and lot which I spoke of in Salem has since been sold to other parties and is not now for sale. I am informed that there is another house and lot which can be bought, but do not know any of the particulars. The titles to the lot in Auburn are undisputed through the Col. people are dissatisfied with the present Trustees and are going to make a change before they commence work on the house. The assistance which I recommended is very much needed, but I do not think that I could complete the work by the 1st of Jan, 1869. I have rented a building in Auburn, and a free school of 100 pupils was opened there on the 7th. inst.
Very Respectfully &c,
D.B. Smith
Sub. Asst. Comm.
