Sir;
In accordance with instructions from Col. Caselle I send the following statement relative to schools for colored children in this District-
I have not been able to get correct information respecting the number of attendents names of teachers &c, but will be able soon to do so and then forward as more complete report-
Mr. Williams (a col'd man)states there are about seven (7) different schools - six in the town of Tuskaloosa [[Tuscaloosa]] and one in North Port (just across the river). Five of these schools in town are taught by white young ladies and average about twenty scholars each- Mr. Williams has charge of the seventh which numbers twenty eight scholars- Another colored man taught the school in North Port-but has been or is about to give it up-and another take
