On Monday,
There has been a school taught in the Baptist Church, but with an attendance of only about 30 pupils. The teacher James Caldwell will call upon you, and I would recommend that he receive some assistance. The children are mostly new Scholars, some from the Country, where it was started. it was represented that from 72% - 100 could be obtained, principally from the Baptists, and I think that this fall has teachers will be needed there.
I have to report two teachers engaged last month. Mr N. B. Pettit. James Bluff. Sunneter Co" at $30. per month. He has taught three months, and I wish that he might be paid for month of May. Mr Thomas Smith. Demopolis $30 per month, pay to commence June 1st, is teaching about five miles from here in Greene Co", began last Monday.
Both of the above are competent teachers & have the privilege of collecting not to exceed $30. Each from the [[strikethrough]] patrons of the Schools, [[/strikethrough]] Freedmen
