Dear sir,
I am informed that teachers are wanted by the Bureau to instruct the freed people of the South and that teachers are few in proportion to requirements. Having served in that capacity in this county and state, and feeling that I might by such efforts be of much benefit to those who have suffered cruel wrongs at the hand of human oppressors. I could, as an humble teacher, render my insight to that unhappy people and to the future existence of the Republic. I wish to know, if it please you, if such teachers are still wanted, the requirements of them, their compensation, and all things connected with it you think well for one to know.
