This moment a letter comes from Smith suggesting that Mr C. T. Chase who has just admirably furnished a $10,500 Enterprise at Charleston, & who bears not only our Commission but  Genl Howard's as well, can be spared as long as may be necessary - two, three or more months - to complete carefully all your plans. He can take up the work where Mr Bardwell shall leave it. Both will be fully advised of our views & will follow our policy. I have confidence that both these gentlemen will secure your good opinion & satisfactorily
