of the Cumberland hospital buildings as I wrote you about Stevenson, that you could probably have it taken down transported to Florence & re-erected there.

3d. help in the way of paying teachers. I know all this looks as if I thought you were made of money. I know I cannot accomplish it myself. With your efficient & earnest help - it is barely possible. I should not think of it or say a word to you about it, if the fact of Waring being on the spot did not make it not only possible but feasible - & so I wrote frankly & freely to you. If we can operate together & anything like what I have suggested be carried out - I question whether the same amount of money will be expended to as good advantage anywhere in Alabama. If I could only command the funds I would not say a word to you. But as it is, it seems to me just working right in your line & doing the very work you are trying to do. Such men as Waring are surely not met with every day. I shall be obliged by as early an answer as practicable. I may be able to use the assurance of your help to help our efforts here, while for want of this the whole matter may seem entirely impracticalbe & be given up. With warmest wishes for your success & & the advancement of this race so full of promise
