Dear Sir:
Yours of the 5th came duly to hand, and your renewed assurance of assistance in erecting a school house for the freedmen here gave me great pleasure.

I am sorry I am unable as yet to send you the probable cost of a building suitable for the accommodation by 200 pupils, but hope to do so shortly. The plan for the same, which you are to send us, will assist in the matter.

You enquire if our school can be self-supporting, to a considerable extent, this fall. I wish very much, Sir, you were here: could go about among the freedmen, and by conversing
