Mrs. Jane Mosley, President
San Antonio Art League
Koehler Cultural Center
310 W. Ashby
San Antonio, Texas 78212

Dear Mrs. Mosley:

The intent of this letter is to personally express my appreciation for the magnanimous offer made to me, by the San Antonio Art League, to go to the opening of the Whitney Biennial. I want you to know that my refusal of the offer had to do with lack of time and previous commitments. I hope that my inability to make use of your generosity does not turn into a negative one-time concept. Rather, said monies can be put aside on an accumulative basis and be used periodically to help local artists finance trips to worthy exhibitions, etc. etc. Such an approach (divorced from social politics) would give the Art League a nonpareil position in relation to San Antonio artists. The results would be synergic, that it, a positive working relation would be established among the Art League, San Antonio artists and the Community-at-large. An organic viable condition would be created allowing for change and growth rather than ossification.

Once again thank you very much for unselfish and dedicated interest.

Yours truly,
Mel Casas
