SYMPOSIUM ON MEXICAN AMERICAN ART

The College of Fine and Applied Arts of The University of Texas at San Antonio is proud to present a Symposium on Mexican American Art, the first such gathering ever assembled. The national scope of the symposium further underscores its importance. It is therefore highly appropriate that this event take place in San Antonio, a city whose history and culture are intimately tied to Mexico and the United States. Eleven artists from cities in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and New York will participate in the two-day symposium. The participants are among twenty-five artists represented in a recent book published by the University of Texas Press, Mexican American Artists. Author of the book, Dr. Jacinto Quirarte, is Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts. Each artist will discuss some aspect of his or her work in a presentation-lecture, illustrated with slides and/or original works of art. A mesa redonda (round table) discussion will be held at the end of each day's session.
