MARYLAND STATE ARTS COUNCIL
NEW INCENTIVE GRANT APPLICATION-FY2001
School 33 Art Center

Friday Workshop #3-A Place to Call Home, Memory Boxes for adults. Two consecutive Fridays, at the Hispanic Apostolate Center. INSTRUCTOR-Carolina Mayorga
The adults will construct memory boxes that incorporate painting and writing, as well as personal items collaged to the surface. Fridays were selected because it is traditionally a day when food is donated to the Apostolate and people linger and visit, making attendance higher among the somewhat reticent and transient visitors. The first week adults will meet the instructor and see slides of Milagro paintings and discuss and sketch ideas for their boxes. The second week adults will assemble and paint their boxes.

The entire program will culminate with an exhibit of works from the three workshops, titled A Place to Call Home, at a suitable gallery space (such as City Hall Gallery, Baltimore). The exhibit opening will be a cultural cerebration. Bus transportation will be provided from the community to the exhibit. School 33 Art Center will work with EBLO in order to provide traditional food for the opening reception.
