Dear Mrs. Thompson:

The Department of American Decorative Arts at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts is in the process of publishing a catalogue of its American sculpture collection. The catalogue will include many photographs of objects in the collection as well as photographs of the sculptors themselves. We are fortunate to have Bessie Potter Vonnoh's The Scarf in our collection, and, of course, are excited to include a photograph of the artist in the catalogue.

Kathryn Greenthal, one of the catalogue's co-authors, obtained a photograph of Ms. Vonnoh from May Hill, who apparently had received the photograph from you. We would like to use that photograph (I've enclosed a xerox [[Xerox]] copy of it to refresh your memory) in the catalogue and I'm writing you to obtain permission from you, the owner of the photo, to do so. I am also interested in knowing the name of the photographer and date of the photo, as well as how you wish to be listed in the catalogue; such as, "Courtesy, Mrs. Robert Rowe Thompson." Also, would you like us to return the photo to you after we are through with it?

Thank you so much for thinking about all this. I will try to contact you by phone within a week or so; there is no need for you to try to get back to us.

Thanks again and I look forward to speaking to you soon.

Sincerely,
