I came to this country in 1941 and by the end of the year I was asked by the Museum of Modern Art if I would consent to make some sketches for the new building of the Ministry of Education in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. I asked for the blueprints of the building and shortly after that I started my sketches. Again the idea of Prometheus came to my mind. Since it was for a Ministry of Education and Health I thought that Prometheus would fit the purpose perfectly well. My sculpture of 1936-37 was completely transformed, not only to[[strikethrough]]f[[/strikethrough]] fit the new place but also by all [[strikethrough]] my [[/strikethrough]] the experiences I had acquired during those stormy and crucial years.

My project was accepted and I made a model to be three times [[strikethrough]] en [[/strikethrough]] enlarged for the huge wall of the Ministry of Education in Rio. Unfortunately the contract was not kept by the Ministry and instead of enlarging my model three times, the model itself was cast (and very badly at that) without my permission and put on the huge wall. I have never recognized this final sculpture as my work.

It is the same model, only worked over and completed in plaster which was exhibited at the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and which the Museum of Philadelphia commisioned [[commissioned]] me to cast in bronze. And this final version of Prometheus is the only one which I recognize as being a work of mine.
