The City of New York
Office of the Mayor
New York, N.Y. 10007

August 8, 1973

Mr. Hale Woodruff
22 East 8th Street
New York, New York

Dear Mr. Woodruff:

I am delighted that you have agreed to serve a three-year term on the Art Commission of the City of New York.

As you are aware, the Art Commission must review and approve any work of art acquired by the City for use in any public location. All structures erected on land belonging to the City must be reviewed by the Commission before construction can be undertaken. In addition, the Art Commission periodically examines all monuments, sculptures and paintings belonging to the City to make recommendations for their cleaning, maintenance, repair, and restoration. I am certain that your talent as an artist and your experience with the New York State Council on the Arts will be an asset to the Art Commission as it carries forward its responsibilities.

I am looking forward to swearing you in on August 21st at 3 p.m. in the Blue Room of City Hall.

Sincerely,
John V. Lindsay
