She resorts to the old cliche of "mental" attitudes (if not madness) in writing about Soutine. This is easy, and nowadays acceptable. Then she brings in the Jewish Art which may be, indeed, valid. You very well know that during the times and the decades in question, all facets of humanity, and racial, religious, and ethnic groups were those who made up the so-called "School of Paris" during and for a decade or so, after World War I.
 
Genauer calls names - all the well-known names such as Lipshitz and on and on. There were also blacks!! Wm H. Johnson who was an obvious follower of Soutine. (He died here in NY about 1970, at the hospital in Islip, NY.) I also felt the impact of his Soutines great work but in all cases, I never succumbed to it. Cézanne was my (European) image.
