Who brought for our inspection (w beautifully executed miniature by order a French artist of a very beautiful young lady. We thought we observed a likeness but professional stigma forbade us asking of whom. Certain it was an exquisite painting of a beautiful lady. The portrait of Washington we referred to was painted by the above Robertson. One of three brothers all Scotchmen & miniature painters - A resident artist here - another was secretary for many years of the American Academy of fine Arts - the other and more celebrated of the three a prominent miniature painter in London, some many of his works reached this country. Particularly remember the young officer in British uniform in possession of Col Trumbul, the other a gentleman in a Blue coat. The original picture is in the possession & on exhibition in the Gallery of the Atheneum of Hartford [[strikethrough]] I copied them both. [[/strikethrough]] Very fine forcible miniature. I copied them both. Be it known also that that obscure Athenum Gallery possesses in the full length of [[?]] the finest specimen of Sir Thomas Lawrence's pencil, and one of [[written over letter]] the finest portrait in this County.
