How T.S.C became a Miniature Painter &c
About 1823. I went to Henry Inman, who, as almost all the artists of that period, painted Portraits in oil & Miniatures in water col [[strikethrough]] in Oil & water Col, [[/strikethrough]] Waldo & Jewett. The only "firm" in the profession, & who painted almost every body of the period & very well too) and only in Oils life size, Ingham, Worth, Sully - all painted both. Tho' more I believe only in the South. Trumbulls miniatures in Oil are amongst the finest of his work. [[strikethrough]] To learn the profession of a painter in Oil [[/strikethrough]] The pupilship with Inman was to be exclusively confined to portraitures [[strikethrough]] Only [[/strikethrough]] and I so studied 3. years with [[strikethrough]] Inman [[/strikethrough]] him. About that times I copied a min of a lady by Dickenson. Mr Col Hall on tray with cols a very secret picture - Inman suggested that I try one from life which I did, and he was much pleased with it.
