Thomas S. Cummings retired from professional practice in 1866 locating in Mansfield Centre Connecticut. The original [[strikethrough]] house [[/strikethrough]] building is of brick and somewhat historic. It was built by one of the first potters on the land, with brick of his own making. far harder than any other made now. It is precisely on the site of the old block house erected for defense of the village against the indians and some of its timbers are said to have been used in its construction - It has however been so entirely remodelled that they are not discoverable now. Mr French in his vol. on the Artists of Connecticut pronounces it "a Gem". [[strikethrough]] As we insert it. No attempt at description is unnecessary. [[/strikethrough]]
