A is the first or nearest object from its angle draw the lines BC [[strikethrough]]D [[/strikethrough]] to the point of sight and all the others are determined - their distances apart by the other diagonal line drawn to the distance point as before which if repeated reversed [[strikethrough]]to the[[/strikethrough]] the line stil going to the same point of sight, may represent a row of columns, avenue of trees, street of buildings &c.

but as our object in this essay is only to treat of the [[strikethrough]] deceptive [[/strikethrough]] appearance and to call attention to a simple mode of educating the eye to the [[strikethrough]] apparent deception [[/strikethrough]] apparent form, it is not to be supposed, nor is it our intention to enter into a dissertation on perspective, further than these simple illustrations, and even not in those to the extent in accuracy of a Perspective drawing - those desiring such information are referred to the Wrens excellent treatises on [[strikethrough]] that art [[/strikethrough]] Lineal perspective, where the subject will be found to be fully explained. When objects are represented at different distances on the plain of the picture another, and equally deceptive appearance to the eye, is required to be exemplified to place them properly before the spectator, namely, A

Aerial Perspective
Which is the change produced in the object by the [[strikethrough]] intervention [[/strikethrough]] interposition of the atmosphere, and to which after the correct lines are given the artist is indebted for [[strikethrough]] the art of [[/strikethrough]] the property representing of the retiring and advancing character of the objects of nature [[strikethrough]] which [[/strikethrough]] he may have chosen to represent in his picture. and as the Art of Painting, so far as mere truthfulness representation is concerned, is to deceive the eye, by [[strikethrough]]representing [[/strikethrough]] producing a representation on a flat surface of that which in nature is [[strikethrough]] planed [[/strikethrough]] on various planes at [[strikethrough]] various [[/strikethrough]] at irregular distances [[strikethrough]] sometimes many [[/strikethrough]] often to the extent of miles.- it will be readily perceived how far a knowledge and practice of this part [[strikethrough]] of his [[/strikethrough]] of art is necessary to be perfected of representation. It is not my object to carry this essay into a minutia of detail, or pretend to submit matters for the study of the artist, to [[strikethrough]] carry? [[/strikethrough]] leave the general reader to an observance of [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] peculiarities and principles governing representation of natural objects by art is all that I can [[strikethrough]] here have [[/strikethrough]] give [[strikethrough]] n [[/strikethrough]], and it is not my intention to perplex [[strikethrough]] him [[/strikethrough]] such readers with a multitude of elaborated and complicated examples requiring further and expensive works spent [[strikethrough]] to exemplify it[[/strikethrough]] to illustrate.  The real trouble in life [[strikethrough]] says Bussert? [[/strikethrough]] in all professions is the trouble of thinking [[strikethrough]] and the reason why people are sometimes caught at to avoid that labour and it is this [[/strikethrough]]and this labour I would not even I could weaken the mind by removing - knowledge that will enable [[strikethrough]] an artist [[/strikethrough]] but once obtain the power of seeing correctly and it will be formed.  The eye to determine at a glance a complicated plan, which [[strikethrough]]to other not so prepared by study [[/strikethrough]]under the circumstances would require a multiplicity of reference to [[strikethrough]] explain [[/strikethrough]] exemplify.
